Online casino scams: the signs, the licence, the withdrawal test
Six recurring patterns, each of them visible before the first deposit or at the first payout.
A fraudulent gambling platform almost never gives itself away by how it looks. It gives itself away at the withdrawal, and by a handful of details that can be checked before any money moves.
The six patterns, and what settles each one
The list is not exhaustive. These are the shapes that come back across reports, and each one has somewhere it can be settled from outside: a clause in the terms, an entry in a register, a dated exchange with support.
A withdrawal is refused pending an identity check that never concludes.
Compare the list of documents demanded against the list set out in the terms. The bonus wagering requirement appears only after registration.
Open the offer page and the terms side by side before creating the account.Support stops replying above a certain amount.
Timestamp every follow-up; the absence of a postal address accompanies most of these. The account is closed for an alleged breach of the rules.
Ask in writing which clause is invoked; its absence is itself an element. An unannounced maximum stake voids the winnings retroactively.
The clause sits in the terms, never on the offer page.A first withdrawal is paid and the second is not.
The most documented pattern of all: the first sum buys the trust.C-6 is the one that defeats the usual advice to test with a small withdrawal, and the test is still worth running: it costs a few days and it rules out the five others. What it cannot do is prove the platform will pay twice.
What the licence reveals
The footer is the most decorative part of a gambling site. A regulator logo proves nothing there. The licence number, on the other hand, is searchable in the cited authority’s public register. If it is not listed, or if it belongs to a company with a different name from the operator, the examination stops.
Open the register by typing the authority’s address, never by following the link the platform displays – that link is part of what is being examined.
The withdrawal is the only test that binds the platform
The deposit always works. Trigger a small withdrawal early, before committing more. An announced window of 24 to 72 hours that stretches past a week with no written reason is the first serious signal. A second withdrawal refused after a first one paid is the most documented pattern of all: the platform pays once to establish trust.
What is checked, and where
Four claims appear on nearly every platform, and each has one place where it can be settled from outside. The pattern below is worth reading before an account is opened rather than after a payout is refused.
Reporting
Reporting does not refund. What it produces is a record: it documents repetition and feeds the lists that supervisory authorities keep. To be usable it has to rest on dated pieces – timestamped screenshots, written exchanges, bank statements, rather than on an account of events.

The bonus, and the arithmetic it hides
The welcome bonus is the central instrument, and there is nothing unlawful about it in itself: everything turns on the wagering requirement. A requirement of forty times the bonus means the amount has to be staked forty times before a withdrawal becomes possible. On a hundred-euro bonus that is four thousand euros wagered, and every pass leaves a margin with the house. That is what makes the condition mathematically unreachable rather than merely hard.
Two clauses usually make it worse and rarely appear on the offer page: a maximum stake during the bonus period, where exceeding it by a few euros voids the winnings entirely, and games excluded from the count or counted at ten or twenty per cent. Both live in the terms.
Live tables prove less than they suggest
A table filmed with a real dealer is reassuring, which is its job. It says nothing about the operator's solvency or willingness to pay, which are the two questions here. A video feed is rented from a third party; the platform showing it may hold no licence at all in the market it is advertising to. The dealer moves the trust without moving the risk.
